Not fluent in Norwegian?
You can still apply to this course and learn Norwegian throughout the year via our electives “language learning” and our buddy-system. At Film and videoproduction the course is supposed to be in Norwegian, but we have had a couple of international students (USA and Germany) who have come here and learned throughout the year. We usually start the year in English and with time switch over to Norwegian. If the teacher gives important messages it is always given in English, but if there is something you haven’t quite caught the rest of the class is always very helpful and will translate things for you.
If you however want to go to Folk High school with the sole purpose of learning the Norwegian Language and culture we recommend the course “Norwegian Language and Culture – NLC”.
If you are somewhat proficient in Norwegian, or at least understand it to some extent we recommend checking out other classes like film or the outdoor class. Don’t hesitate to contact the school with questions! Either the office kontor@agder.fhs.no or the teacher directly
Friends, creativity, and southern Norwegian charm, that’s what Agder Folk High School offers (as long as you remember your umbrella). Film and Video Production is an incredible course whether you’re a cinephile or just love goofing around on camera. Here, you can make your masterpiece, and then never shut up about it.

Through the internship I had during my year at AgderFHS, I built valuable connections in the film industry. It has already led to several film jobs afterwards and given me an important foothold in a field where networking means everything. It was a great experience to travel to another city with part of the class for a week, and at the same time very educational to see how professionals work in practice. Highly recommended, both for the fun of it and for your career!

It’s about a 15-minute drive to Kristiansand, or 30 minutes by bus. The bus stops are around a 10-minute walk from the school. Tangvall town center is 5 minutes away by car, 10 by bus.
No. Everything you need is provided at the school – cameras, editing rooms, computers, and software. However, it’s useful to have a simple laptop or tablet for writing scripts, since you’ll get access to professional screenwriting software. As long as it starts up, it’s more than good enough.
Of course! You’ll have time for that both during class and in your free time. You’ll get plenty of assignments and projects with some framework, but there’s a lot of room to bring your own ideas, projects, or suggestions for activities and lessons.
Both no and yes. There’s little traditional classroom teaching like you might know from high school. We focus on practical work, and the theory is tied to what you’re doing in practice. If you make a cool creative choice, we’ll explain why it works and how you can use it consciously in your storytelling. You learn mostly through doing, followed by feedback and reflection.
Yes, both where and what! If you’re passionate about sound, for example, we’ll help you find a placement where you can build experience and connections with professionals in your field.
We usually have 12–16 students in the class. The minibus seats 16, so that’s roughly the upper limit – but nothing’s ever truly impossible, so reach out even if it says “full.”
Just get in touch! You can send us a DM on Instagram at @agderfilm – you’ll often get a reply from one of the students. You can also contact the film teacher by email or phone. Check the Staff page (Lars) for details.

Teacher Hei!
My name is Lars, I’m the Film teacher, and I hope to see you at Film and Videoproduction! I took a bachelor’s and master’s degree in film and video production from NTNU, as well as a teaching degree in Trondheim. During my bachelor’s, I also had the opportunity to live and study film in California, but my Californian accent is all gone.
