Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a dream destination for biodiversity!

Snorkeling on Costa Rica

This is a destination for the class Biology and the Joy of Nature

Here, we’ll learn about species in tropical rainforests, mangrove forests, coastal landscapes, and the ocean. The trip includes visits to national parks, birdwatching tours with local guides, and snorkeling in azure waters among colorful fish and corals. We may encounter tiny hummingbirds, crocodiles, whales, and leisurely sea turtles.
Costa Rica is famous for its unique ecosystems, incredible biodiversity, and extensive conservation efforts. The country has protected 25% of its land as national parks, giving it the highest percentage of protected nature in the world. This makes it the perfect destination to learn about environmental management and sustainable tourism. We’ll also participate in ecological restoration, including planting enough trees to offset the emissions from our flight.

A glimpse of what we’ll experience and learn:

  • The incredible diversity of the rainforest
  • Mangrove forests with iguanas, colorful birds, and spider monkeys
  • Explore the ocean at night – learn about magical bioluminescence.
  • Night hikes in the jungle — discovering nocturnal species and their sounds
  • Species fascinating adaptations for survival and reproduction
  • Interactions between species and their role in the environment
  • Whale watching
  • Local customs and the traditional use of plants and animals
  • The country’s conservation efforts for nature and wildlife
