Thailand

Travel & Development, Outdoor Life & Photography, and Travel & NatureActive all travel to Thailand. Here you’ll find some general information about Thailand and the trips these courses take to the country.

This is a destination for the Travel and Development, Nature Adventure Tourism, and Outdoor Life and Photography programs.

Thailand is located in Southeast Asia and has over 70 million inhabitants, of whom more than 90% are Buddhists. The country is a monarchy, the language is Thai, and the currency is Baht.

Thailand is an exciting destination. It features jungles, mountains, national parks, mangroves, limestone cliffs, rivers, and beautiful coastal areas with islands and coral reefs, offering opportunities for nature-based activities such as trekking, rafting, snorkeling, and diving.

Thailand also has a rich cultural heritage, with Buddhist temples, traditional festivals, handicrafts, local cuisine, and markets (for example, floating markets and night markets).

Travel and Development

If you can’t find it in Thailand, it probably doesn’t exist anywhere. This is a truth with some modifications, but Thailand is incredibly diverse. In the north of the country, many hill tribes live, and we also encounter them at the markets in Chiang Mai.

In the north, you can also feed elephants and bathe with them. You will likely also have the opportunity to go on a rafting trip on a bamboo raft.

In Southern Thailand, we stay right by the beach, and you’ll have the chance to snorkel among colorful fish. You will also join a boat trip into the mangrove forest, where large flocks of flying foxes live.

On this trip, we gain a unique insight into nature-based tourism in Thailand through guidance from local tour leaders who for many years have taken tourists to both well-known and hidden gems in the north and south of Thailand. We also visit famous locations such as Luang Prabang in Laos, and the areas around Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnamese coast. Along the way, we talk with nature guides in the different countries and compare their mindsets and guiding roles with those in Norway. There are countless photo opportunities, ranging from bustling city life to stunning sunsets along the coast, as well as portraits of local people in rural areas.
